Manifest Destiny Podcast Assignment



The goal:  Create an audio Podcast for the hit TV show “Manifest Destiny.” 







The Process:  Follow these steps to create your own Podcast!


Step 1:    to hear Mr. Ennett's example of a Podcast. 



Step 2:    RESEARCH YOUR TOPIC:  You may use your textbook, in-class materials, the library, the internet, or any other reliable source for your information.  Check out this video made by middle school students that shows Manifest Destiny from 1801-1861.



Part 2A:  Choose your topic from the following list of possible Manifest Destiny topics.
  • The Louisiana Purchase
  • The Florida Purchase
  • Texas Annexation
  • Oregon Treaty
  • Mexican Cession
  • Gadsden Purchase
Part 2B:  You must include the following elements in your Podcast at a minimum.
  • Name of the topic.
  • Date the topic was acquired.
  • major significance of land acquired.  
  • A few additional interesting or important facts.  For example:  How the land was acquired, who settled there and when, why the United States wanted this land, who was the land acquired from.


Step 3:  When you finish your research,   to choose your Manifest Destiny topic and write a script.  Your script can be serious, funny, informational, satirical, etc... just have fun with it!   Click here to use the rubric as a guide while writing your script to ensure excellence.

Step 4:   Create your Podcast using iMovie.  

Required steps:
1.  Record your 50 to 80 second Podcast.
2.  Import your recording into iMovie.
3.  Import music into imovie that goes along with your recording.  There are plenty of free music websites that you can download from including http://www.instantmusicnow.com/
4.  Import sounds into imovie to make your Podcast more interesting.  Sound effects can also be added using websites like http://www.pacdv.com/sounds/index.html
5.  Add a picture that relates to your Podcast.
6.  Export your video to your desktop.
7.  email your Podcast to me and I will upload it to the class website.
